Paramount Prepping Transformers Cinematic Universe; Bay Up for TF5?

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has hired Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, Fringe, Insurgent, Angels & Demons, etc) to create a a cinematic universe road map for Transformers. The writer/producer would work with current Transformers executive producers Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura to determine a "potential multi-part Transformers sequel and come up with potential spinoff films based" on the franchise and then use multiple writers to hammer out the various scripts.

The approach is one already used by Marvel where the over all road map is controlled and maintained by Kevin Feige but the details of how each movie within that road map is executed is decided mostly by the writers and directors with the road map altered as better ideas dictate it. Basically sounds like Goldsman is being given the Feige role for Transformers but without any final word powers. Disney is also doing this with Star Wars but there currently isn't an official grand master controlling the vision there but for now JJ Abrams holds that non-official role.

It also seems Bay remains in play to direct the next film. According to the article the goal is to have "something hammered out when [Bay] completes production [on 13 Hours] so that the next Transformers pic can move forward quickly." That sounds like Bay is seriously considering helming Transformers 5 (can't blame him since each film nets him around $100 million plus). So whatever vision Goldsman comes up with will have to take that heavily into consideration.

My main recommendation is Goldsman should have a pow-wow with the IDW writers as they seemed to have nailed a natural approach to Transformers as individual characters while doing some rather outstanding world building, both of which have been rather significant problems with the previous movies and often been very difficult nut to crack for most Transformers writers regardless of format. It could be better (way to much hinting, not enough showing) but the world building of IDW's TF comics in the last five years have far outstripped the previous 25. To be in that team of writers and help develop the next trilogy and potential tie-in films.... One can dream.

  1. It's all cool as long as they won't lower CGI quality. No Transformers movie or live action tv show could be any good if they would go the cheaper CGI route.
The CGI must always be top-notch like in the movies or it would look like a silly farce.

  2. I don't know, while all of these movies had some good moments and action sets, I was never happy with the overall movie. I always wondered if I just saw real great meaningful movie or the dumbest goofy brainless movie I ever saw. It's not just about the CGI or the money it makes for me, it's about quality of scripts and character development and there is where I think Bay just sucks, it's not just about making things go BOOM!! and toilet humor.

  3. OMG Seriously, more friggin movies come on. They've already spat all over all things Transformers with the first four, now they'll be more great just great. These movies are nothing but explosions and awful jokes made for or by 13 year olds.

  4. @3:05: Fortunately, you don't have to watch it! whew that was a close call. It would suck if you forced to go see a movie you have no interest in.

    1. Doesn't matter if I go or not, because as long as they keep making these movies the bar lowers, soon we'll have movies where it's some dudes ass farting. Cinema is being brought down, it's not about quality anymore its about how Hollywood can get the millions of morons that exist to go see they're crappy explosive fart joke filled movies.

    2. You mean including yourself? I would assume you have seen all of them up to this point. I'll agree ,the fart jokes I can do without, but they aren't completely horrible movies either. They do have their merits. Which is that they are entertaining nonetheless. I do like Bay as a director. I think he does a fantastic job having the script that is handed to him put to life but I do think it's time for a new director to have a new take on the series. If nothing else, just to see what someone else would do. I think Bay has pretty much done all he can actually do with them.

    3. Good point, just wish they'd give someone else a chance to take the reigns so to speak. Someone new would be a welcomed change.

But you will go and them all do you ? Eventually Michael Bay has nothing to do with the scripts . We must all be happy with the decision of Paramount to change script writer . Because only the script writer is the cause of Bayhem NOT Bay . I wish for a Unicron correctly character and true personalities about Transformers one by one nothing more nothing less . Movies are the most exciting stuff the Hollywood have , but i agree must be approaching with another touch like an another script writer . the new choice is mucj much better than the first Fringe was one of the most complex story telling of all time . Do you agree ? Peace !

  6. I (hope)the next transformers movie they'll try and do better this time.In each movie there is some good parts which is the robots design, how they move, how they sound and how they transform especially in detail.I would wish if they could make optimus transform with his trailer so he can fly, theres need for more aerial battles in the air and longer highway fight scenes on the road. The characters acting need to feel more natural and feel realistic, also they should get rid of the cursing words,i liked DARK OF THE MOON overall but women i think should get a better image in these movies so CHILDREN can watch transformers with there families.

  8. I'm a big fan really, collecting toys, t-shirts and got even my own gaming site about transformers, but the latest movie (the 4 th one) was really really bad. Action scene lasted for too long, so much details moving too fast, story-line is zero. It was somewhere between boring and terrible. Couldn't wait the last 15-20 minutes to finish. Bay must change something. asap, or the next project will be disaster. Why don't they film something like 'beginnings of transformers' , how it all started, or maybe they should move the story to Cybertron in space. That would be cool. But change something, plz!

    1. @Anonymous 4/19/2015 1:13 PM: they should hire Alan Dean Foster which did a wonderful job with the Transformers novels for the first two movies.
